Report from the 7th Endo COMBO 2019 course
The 7th Endo COMBO course, endorsed by ESE, was held on the 4 - 6 October 2019 near Athens in Anavyssos, Greece. This international course, featuring live workshops, attracted participants from Europe and beyond. The theme was 'Diabetes and Endocrine-related Cancer: Novel Mechanisms and Novel Therapies'.
Professor Evanthia Diamanti-Kandarakis, director of the endocrinology and diabetes departments at the Hygeia and Mitera Hospitals in Athens, with co-organizers, Prof Vera Popovic, Prof Miša Pfeifer and Dr Eleni Kandaraki, organised the course featuring experts from the relevant scientific fields of endocrine disorders.
Over 35 speakers and tutors from around the world shared their experience in the demanding and rapidly evolving field of endocrine oncology. Management of patients with endocrine tumours has become more demanding in everyday clinical practice, which has led to rapid progress. In addition to lectures, interactive workshops allowed students to engage with experts. Case presentations and discussions focused on the critical topics of endocrine malignancies, as well as on the endocrine consequences of oncological therapies on metabolic, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, bone and reproductive functions.
Participants were fully engaged with plenty of educational and practical discussion. Thanks are due to all organisers and participants for making this such a great event.
