Unmet Therapeutic, Educational and Scientific Needs in Parathyroid Disorders: A PARAT Programme Publication
PARAT, a European Society of Endocrinology programme, aims to identify unmet scientific and educational needs of parathyroid disorders.
The 1st Expert Workshop on Parathyroid Disorders was held 6-7 September 2018 in Sanpoort, the Netherlands. This workshop brought together 30 key leaders and experts from the parathyroid field including endocrinologists, surgeons, pathologists and researchers.
With a programme focusing on parathyroid cancers, primary hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism, the meeting aimed to identify the challenges faced during the diagnosis and management of patients with these conditions. The workshop outcomes, generated through interactive discussion sessions, will inform the development of future activities aimed at addressing these challenges and improving patient outcomes across Europe and beyond.
The discussions held during the first PARAT workshop (September 2018) have been developed into a Consensus Statement published in the European Journal of Endocrinology. Written by the PARAT Steering Committee, chaired by Jens Bollerslev, Norway, this publication summarises and discusses recent achievements in the fields of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), parathyroid cancer (PC) and hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT).
