The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI)
Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) is a partnership for health research and innovation between the EU (funded through Horizon Europe) and Europe's life science industries. Scientists from academia, diverse industry sectors, SMEs, mid-sized companies, hospitals and patients’ organisations are encouraged to get involved. The IHI holds regular calls for proposals.
The IHI has published its 2024 Work Programme and has launched Call 6 and 7
Call 6 topics:
- Topic 1: Support healthcare system resilience through a focus on persistency in the treatment of chronic diseases
- Topic 2: Development of evidence based practical guidance for sponsors on the use of real-world data / real-world evidence
Call 6 invites two stage applications with first stage deadline on 16 April 2024 and full proposal submission deadline: 10 October 2024.
Call 7 topics
- Topic 1:Improving clinical management of heart disease from early detection to treatment
- Topic 2: User-centric technologies and optimised hospital workflows for a sustainable healthcare workforce
- Topic 3: Clinical validation of biomarkers for diagnosis, monitoring disease progression and treatment response

Global Health European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (GH EDCTP3)
The GH EDCTP3 partnership funds collaborative clinical research on medicinal products and supports the capacity for sub-Saharan African countries to conduct high-quality clinical studies
GH EDCTP3 recently published their Work Programme for 2024.. There are seven 2024 call topics worth €140m, with a first stage deadline of 4 April 2024, second stage 12 September 2024
The calls are following:
- Research on existing Malaria vaccines and development of new promising candidates-
- New tools, technologies and approaches for vector control in sub-Saharan Africa
- Accelerating development and integration of therapeutics against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in sub-Saharan Africa
- Global Health EDCTP3 JU training fellowship with return phase
- Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through R&D in novel and existing antimicrobials
- Innovative digital health solutions for sub-Saharan Africa
- Developing novel, innovative HIV therapeutics for reducing the disease burden of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa

European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMed) Launched including First Call
The European Partnership for Personalised Medicine has been launched and follows on from the ICPerMed project. EP PerMed aims to improve future healthcare for all citizens through personalised therapy, diagnosis and prevention. It has a total budget of around €375 million provided by the EU (from Horizon Europe) and more than 50 partners (that are mainly funding organisations from Europe and beyond). EP PerMed will not only significantly support the transnational development of personalised medicine approaches over the next ten years, but also their successful translation into clinical practice.
Because EP PeMed is a co-funded partnership, it does not follow the normal Horizon Europe eligibility and funding rules - potential applicants should check on a call by call basis to see which countries and types of organisation are eligible for funding.
EP PerMed has announced its first call for proposals "Identification or Validation of Targets for Personalised Medicine Approaches (PMTargets)" with deadline for pre-proposal submission on 5 March 2024 and deadline for full-proposal submission on 20 June 2024.
The European Partnership on transforming health and care systems (THCS) - Pre-Announcement of The Second Joint Transnational Call
THCS is a Cofund action under the Horizon Europe Programme designed to support coordinated national and regional research and innovation programmes along with capacity building, networking, dissemination and other key activities to support health and care systems transformation.
Second Joint Translational call aims to support the implementation of innovative person-centred health and care models addressing prevention strategies, with the key help of existing IT and digital technologies and services.
