Horizon Europe Workprogramme 2026 – 2027
European Commission has adopted the main Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2026–2027, setting out the upcoming funding opportunities available under the programme.
The Horizon Europe Cluster 1 Health Work Programme 2026–2027 focuses on addressing non-communicable diseases (including mental health), climate-related health threats, pandemic preparedness, and strengthening healthcare systems through digital innovation. Key goals include enhancing AI in healthcare, fighting antimicrobial resistance, and promoting sustainable, equitable care systems.
Key priorities for 2026-2027 include:
- Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) & Mental Health: Strengthening prevention and management, including behavioural interventions for NCDs in young people.
- Environmental Health & Climate Change: Mitigating the impacts of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss on human health.
- Pandemic Preparedness & Safety: Enhancing surveillance and developing vaccines for epidemic potential, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
- Digital & AI Solutions: Utilizing Generative AI for healthcare efficiency, personalized care, and supporting professional decision-making.
- Healthcare Systems Transformation: Improving resilience, sustainability, and equity in healthcare, alongside patient empowerment.

Please note that deadlines for several 2027 calls have changed and now are as following:
- HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01-STAYHLTH-01: This single-stage call focusing on disabilities across the life course now closes on 17 February 2027
- HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-DISEASE-01 & 14: Two-stage clinical trials and interventions for non-communicable and neurodegenerative diseases require Stage 1 submission by 17 February 2027.
- HORIZON-HLTH-2027-03-TOOL-08: The flagship AI topic—now titled Towards the next generation of frontier Artificial Intelligence models for healthcare—closes on 16 September 2027
Horizon Europe Health info day will take place on 26th November 2026 online. Beforehand, CLUSTER Health Horizon Europe Brokerage Online Event 2027 will take place on 24-25 November 2026.
The main focus of the Horizon Europe Cancer Mission Work Programme (WP) 2026-2027 is to accelerate progress toward the goal of improving the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through advanced research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
The 2026-2027 Workprogramme focuses on transitioning research into clinical practice, leveraging digital technologies, and improving equity.
- CLOSING SOON: 2026 Calls: Focus on Virtual Human Twin models, microbiomes, pragmatic trials, and older patient Quality of Life. Calls open on 10 Feb 2026 with deadline on 15 Sep 2026
- 2027 Calls: Focus on functional genomics, clinical research in infrastructures, rare cancers, and health economics. Calls open on 10 Feb 2027 with deadline on 21 Sep 2027

EIC Pathfinder programs fund early-stage scientific discovery, proof-of-principle validation, and moving lab results toward commercial maturity.

New draft EIC Workprogramme 2027 has been published but has not been adopted or endorsed by the European Commission yet. What is new: Pathfinder Open splits into two stages (short & full application) and adds an interview for every above-threshold proposal. Deadlines for Pathfinder Open according to draft are: Stage 1 – 25/02/2027; Stage 2 –16/09/2027
The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has now launched IHI call 13 is a two-stage call for proposals with the following topics:
- Topic 1: A network to boost the next wave of European innovations in healthcare
- Topic 2: An AI foundation toxicology model and framework to support waiving a second species in drug safety studies
- Topic 3: Decode the immuno-science of age-related immune-mediated diseases
Legal entities based in all countries associated to Horizon Europe, including Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and South Korea, will be eligible to receive funding under this call, in line with the normal rules.
