The template for RIA/IA proposal includes Section 4 - Ethics and Security
(see p 17 and further down of https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/docs/2021-2027/horizon/temp-form/af/af_he-ria-ia_en.pdf
All proposals should fill in Ethics issues table. The applicant(s) should go through the table and indicate which elements concern their proposal by answering ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. If you answer ‘Yes’ to any of the questions, one should
- indicate in the adjacent box at which page in your full proposal further information relating to that ethics issue can be found, and
- provide additional information on that ethics issue in the Ethics Self-Assessment section.
The ethics table includes the following issues:
- Human embryonic stem cells and human embryos
- Humans
- Human cells or tissues
- Personal data
- Animals (all EU Programmes)
- Non-EU countries
- Environment, health and safety
- Artificial intelligence
- Other ethics issues
- Crosscutting issue: potential misuse of results
Additionally, if you have entered any issues in the ethics issue table, you must perform an ethics self-assessment in accordance with the guidelines "How to Complete your Ethics Self-Assessment" and complete the table below by describing
- Ethical dimension of the objectives, methodology and likely impact |
- Compliance with ethical principles and relevant legislations |
Therefore, it is highly recommended to check compliance with ethics requirements from the very beginning of the proposals writing as any ethical issues might need to be addressed throughout the whole proposal.
European Commission provides good guide on how to complete ethics self-assessment in Horizon Europe proposals:
