ESE has been the voice for endocrinology now for 20 years, running the annual European Congress of Endocrinology and owning the European Journal of Endocrinology (EJE), a respected clinical and translational peer-reviewed publication. Partnerships are central to how ESE works, collaborating closely with national endocrine societies, specialist societies, patient organisations and industry partners to address shared challenges and improve outcomes for people with endocrine conditions.
This strong partnership approach provides the foundation for ESE’s impact, enabling the Society to champion endocrine science and health across Europe. As such, this Head of Strategic Partnerships role will develop and lead an effective approach to policy and advocacy in the European political environment, and support the financial growth and sustainability of ESE, particularly through the development of new business opportunities across ESE’s partners.
This role is a senior policy and advocacy-focused role, responsible for shaping and delivering the European Society of Endocrinology’s engagement with European institutions, policy stakeholders and partner organisations.
Working at the interface of science, policy and partnerships, the postholder will ensure that the voice for European endocrinology is heard and respected in relevant European and international policy debates, while supporting sustainable partnerships that enable ESE to deliver its mission.
Policy, advocacy and external influence (primary focus)
- Lead and expand ESE’s policy and advocacy objectives with the European Institutions, and with organisations active in the Brussels EU policy environment.
- Act as a senior representative of ESE, directly engaging with partners and stakeholders to articulate and promote the Society’s positions, priorities and evidence base.
- Develop and deliver a coherent approach to policy engagement across European and international endocrinology, working closely with affiliated societies, patient organisations and other relevant alliances.
- Fully manage the activities of the Public Affairs Committee, supporting its strategic development and ensuring effective delivery of agreed policy priorities.
- Provide strategic oversight of ESE’s engagement on key policy themes, including through the Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals Working Group (operationally managed by the EU Liaison Officer).
Strategic Partnerships and Governance
- Support the Industry Partnerships Board and Patient Advocacy Group Board (both managed by the Business Development Manager), ensuring alignment with ESE’s strategic and ethical framework.
- Work with the Business Development Manager to strengthen relationships with patient advocacy groups to ensure meaningful and inclusive patient engagement across ESE activities.
Sustainable partnerships and organisational support (supporting focus)
- Support the Business Development Manager in the ongoing assessment of trends, opportunities and challenges within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, ensuring these inform ESE’s partnership and policy positioning.
- Contribute to the development of responsible and values-led industry engagement, supporting income generation that aligns with ESE’s mission and independence.
- As a member of the ESE Leadership Team, contribute to budget development and financial planning, supporting the long-term sustainability of ESE’s policy, advocacy and partnership activities.
For this appointment, you should be fluent in English and good knowledge of a second major European language is an advantage.
Remote working will be actively considered, although travel is required as part of this role; willingness and ability to travel mainly, but not exclusively, in Europe, and occasional travel at weekends or bank holidays.
