Mirjam Christ-Crain, ESE Executive Committee 2025-2029
Mirjam Christ-Crain is full Professor of Endocrinology and Deputy Chief of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland. She studied medicine in Basel and Vienna and did her MD and her habilitation at the University of Basel. She did her PhD 2009 at the University of London.
From 2009 to 2015 she had a research professorship of the Swiss National Science Foundation. From 2020-2024 she was member of the Executive committee and chair of the education committee of the European Society of Endocrinology.
Since 2014, she is Deputy Head of the Clinic for Endocrinology in Basel, caring for patients with all endocrine and metabolic diseases. Her main research interest is on vasopressin-dependent disorders of fluid homeostasis, i.e. Vasopressin deficiency (central diabetes insipidus) and hyponatremia, with a further focus on Endocrinology of critical illness.
She authored and co-authored more than 300 publications including high-ranked publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and JAMA and received several honors and awards for her research, among others the EJE award 2019, the Latsis Award for young investigators 2008 and the Otto Nägeli Award for established researchers 2024 in Switzerland.
