European Hormone Day

Coming soon - European Hormone Day 2023!

European Hormone Day 2023 will take place on 15 May 2023.

This is the second dedicated hormone awareness day organised by the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) and European Hormone and Metabolism Foundation (ESE Foundation).

The aim is to bring together the European endocrine community to raise awareness of the significant role of hormones in preventing and treating disease and promoting good health.

Because Hormones Matter

Many people have a basic idea of what hormones are but do not fully understand just how important they are for overall health and wellbeing.

European Hormone Day is a day to put the spotlight on endocrine health – #BecauseHormonesMatter.

It’s also an opportunity to build connections between endocrine stakeholders and issue a collective call for change about how hormones and endocrine-related diseases are addressed in public policy across Europe.

Last year, 35 national and specialist endocrine societies endorsed Recognising the key role of hormones in European health: the Milano Declaration, published jointly by ESE and ESE Foundation, which calls for stronger emphasis of endocrine perspectives in European health policies.

This year, ESE and the ESE Foundation are publishing 10 Recommendations for Good Hormone Health. This complements the work to put hormones at the heart of health policy in Europe with simple actions each of us can take to ensure better hormonal health. We encourage you to share this with your members, local and national health decision makers and your wider community.

ESE and ESE Foundation are also publishing Because Hormones Matter: Working together to raise awareness and promote better endocrine health in Europe [coming soon], which includes a calendar to help the endocrine community focus our combined efforts over the coming year. Please download this to put up in your workplaces to remind yourselves and colleagues of these awareness days/weeks and take part on social media.

Will you join us in raising awareness of the importance of good hormonal health?

Our overarching theme will again be “Because Hormones Matter”, centred around the four key areas in ESE’s 2021 White Paper, ‘Hormones in European Health Policies’. These are: Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), Cancer, Obesity and Rare Endocrine Diseases.

We invite you to focus on the area that feels most relevant to your work this year (or all four!).

You may choose to spread the word through social media or organise national or local activities and events with your organisation – whatever works for you. And if you’re attending ECE 2023 in Istanbul, do come and say hello to the ESE team.

Resources for you to use

We’ve created a toolkit of resources to make it as easy as possible for supporters and partners across Europe to participate.

The Toolkit includes materials to share on social media or print out to use at events in the lead up to European Hormone Day and on the day itself. You can also use these after the campaign to continue the conversation about the importance of hormonal health.
