Dapagliflozin protects the kidneys of patients with type 2 diabetes
Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have an increased risk for renal dysfunction and end-stage kidney disease. The multicentre, retrospective, observational DARWIN-Renal Study (DApagliflozin Real World evIdeNce-Renal) evaluated the effectiveness of dapagliflozin, a SGLT2i drug, on kidney function and albuminuria in T2DM patients. Data from this study published in The Lancet Regional Health Europe confirmed the efficacy of SGLT2i drugs on kidney outcomes in T2DM patients under routine care, including in the loss of kidney function and albuminuria, as well as on intermediate outcomes relevant to diabetes management.
