Dietary and physical activity reduce postpartum weight retention among women with gestational diabetes

Postpartum weight retention raises the risk for long-term obesity and metabolic diseases in women who had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). A recent systematic review and meta-analysis comprising a total of 5672 participants from 12 different studies, concluded that postpartum dietary and physical activity behaviour interventions for women with a recent diagnosis of GDM can reduce postpartum weight retention, and the period of 1 year after delivery may be a good window of opportunity for such interventions.
