Empowering the endocrine clinical and research leaders of the future: Applications now open for the EYES Observership Programmes 2024

We are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the EYES (ESE Young Endocrinologists and Scientists) Observership Programmes for 2024. This year sees three major new developments: a new grant - the Advanced Research Observership Programme (R.O.P.), a new bi-lateral opportunity in the Clinical Observership Programme (C.O.P.) with the addition of Brazil, and seven new centres joining us across the programme. See full details and for applications here.

The new Advanced R.O.P. will complement the existing programme by offering mid-career recipients to conduct basic or translational scientific projects at their allocated R.O.P. centre for up to three months, supported by a grant of up to €3000 per awardee. This programme is aimed at experienced basic and translational scientists and clinicians who have previously worked on basic or translational projects at an advanced level. Applicants will need to specify their previous experience and will have a chance to participate in ongoing projects in EYES R.O.P. centres. Individuals will not be able to apply for both the standard R.O.P Grant and R.O.P. Advanced in the same application round.

The 2024 exchange Observership Programme sees the addition of seven new centres who join our list comprising some of the finest medical and research facilities in Europe. See the full list.

From the Mentor’s view, Pierre Val Group Leader, Genetics, Reproduction and Development Institute (iGReD), Clermont-Ferrand, France commented  “I think, for the lab, it’s always good to have people coming from abroad, with a different perspective on research and life. It’s also a good way of confronting opinions and reflecting on how research is done throughout Europe, and how we could collaborate better with initiatives such as the EYES Research Observership Programme (EYES ROP). From the applicants’ perspective, they have the opportunity to discover projects and techniques that they are usually not familiar with. It’s a great opportunity for them to meet new young colleagues with whom they can keep in touch to develop their network. They also have time to discover the country and culture outside the lab.”

ROP Awardee, Narjes Nasiri-Ansari from Greece, commented "I had an opportunity to see research from a more professional point of view and challenge myself in new ways. This short-term Observership helped me to develop new knowledge of research methodologies and disciplines which I believe will add value to my career. On a cultural point of view I had the opportunity to visit some small surrounding cities, gain new knowledge about French history and architecture and … I made some friends I would love to keep for a lifetime.”
