Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) in focus at Joint Congress Legacy event

On 14 May, ESE together with the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and the Danish endocrine community, hosted a high-level event titled: “Minimising the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals on health and environment: A scientific update following the Joint Congress of ESPE and ESE 2025.”

The event took place in Copenhagen and online, and was organised with the support of Copenhagen Legacy Lab. It aimed to create a positive long-term scientific and policy legacy from the Joint Congress in Denmark, Europe and internationally.

Almost 300 in-person and online participants joined to hear the latest scientific and policy developments in the area of EDCs.

Among the speakers were leading European scientists, EU and national policymakers, and a community representative from an area in Denmark affected by PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances).

All speakers did an excellent job in translating their cutting-edge scientific presentations to the ongoing policy debate at the EU level and in Denmark around EDCs, which led to interactive discussions with the audience.

“Individually we cannot limit our exposure [to EDCs] sufficiently, we need regulation.” – Professor Anne-Simone Parent, University of Liège.

Building on the success of this event, we will continue to work with ESPE, the Danish endocrine community and other national and international partners to communicate the science around EDCs and other endocrine topics to fuel EU and national policy.

Only through the active engagement of our societies and its members can we make the voice of endocrinology heard and work towards a better health and environment for the European population, while at the same time demonstrating the important clinical and scientific work of our community to a wider audience.
