Launching State of Endocrinology 2025 – Raise Your Voice!

Back in 2019, ESE undertook the Mapping Endocrinology in Europe survey, which has been hugely useful in helping to shape our advocacy focus, but the results are now getting dated.

Now ESE is asking you to invest in our profession by completing a renewed updated survey, that will serve as a ‘fitness test’ for the clinical and the research dimension of endocrinology. As clinical endocrinologists we are aware of the many demands that we face on a daily basis, especially increasing clinical workload at a time when we also face a shortage of workforce. As scientists we see the many opportunities that research in our area can bring to endocrine health and disease, but the fight for talent and resources is very competitive.

The survey aims to address how well we are prepared for the future , what are the major challenges and bottlenecks endocrinology may face in a health care environment where demand for services increase but important shortfalls in professionals have been predicted. In short: how do we see the present and future outlook of our discipline.

The survey will inform recommendations about how our discipline can cope with the clinical and research demands, challenges and opportunities of the future. These recommendations will serve our advocacy efforts towards health care decision makers, primarily National but also European where possible, on how to best organise the endocrine health care of the future.

We structured the survey with sections that relate to different roles within Endocrinology, so for example we are asking Heads of Department to tell us more about the structure of their teams, or early career professionals to provide their training experiences and future expectations. We are asking all respondents to assess their working environment, their level of satisfaction with present working conditions, and the professional needs and challenges they see. In case you are a Head of Department, this assessment extends to the department level.

We’d like to thank the national associations for their help with constructing this survey, and for reaching out to their members to urge them to respond to it.

Your national society participating in this effort will receive a summary report on the data collected, so that this effort can serve also to inform country specific situations.

We estimate that it will take on average 20 minutes to complete, this depends on your professional profile, and you can decide to save part-way through and return later to finish it.

This survey is open NOW and closes on 15 July at 23.59 hrs CEST.

Note that all your responses will be confidential, and you can read the ESE privacy policy here.
