White Paper: Endocrine Workforce 2026 - Recommendations for a Healthier Endocrine Future
Findings from ESE’s State of Endocrinology surveys reveal a workforce under growing strain. Without action, it will become harder to recruit and retain specialists, waiting times will increase and there will be less capacity for the research that could improve patient care.
EU institutions, national governments, healthcare organisations and medical societies must act now to enable the endocrine workforce to deliver safe, equitable, and high-quality care.
ESE's new white paper, Endocrine Workforce 2026 - Recommendations for a Healthier Endocrine Future, sets out the endocrine community’s detailed recommendations, covering five key areas:
- Equipping the workforce to meet future healthcare needs
- Closing the gap between demand and capacity through prevention efforts and new technologies
- Improving working conditions, wellbeing and career support
- Protecting time and funding for research
- Supporting fair and sustainable workforce mobility through standardised education and training
These five priorities also form the basis of the Prague Declaration, a call to policymakers and healthcare leaders to make a strategic investment in endocrine care. The recommendations have been endorsed by 46 national endocrine societies and three specialist societies, demonstrating the shared commitment of Europe’s endocrine community to building a sustainable workforce for the future.
