Introduction

The purpose of this Clinical Practice Guideline was to provide guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of adult individuals with hypotonic hyponatraemia. It was designed to provide information and assist in decision-making related to this topic and was meant to support clinical decision-making for any health care professional dealing with hyponatraemia, i.e. general practitioners, internists, surgeons and other physicians dealing with hyponatraemia in both an outpatient and an in-hospital setting. The guideline was also developed for policymakers for informing standards of care and for supporting the decision-making process.
