Horizon Europe Workprogramme 2025 – 2026
European Commission has adopted the main Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2026–2027, setting out the upcoming funding opportunities available under the programme.
Horizon Europe Cluster 1 Health
The Horizon Europe Cluster 1 Health Work Programme 2026–2027 focuses on addressing non-communicable diseases (including mental health), climate-related health threats, pandemic preparedness, and strengthening healthcare systems through digital innovation. Key goals include enhancing AI in healthcare, fighting antimicrobial resistance, and promoting sustainable, equitable care systems.
Key priorities for 2026-2027 include:
- Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) & Mental Health: Strengthening prevention and management, including behavioural interventions for NCDs in young people.
- Environmental Health & Climate Change: Mitigating the impacts of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss on human health.
- Pandemic Preparedness & Safety: Enhancing surveillance and developing vaccines for epidemic potential, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
- Digital & AI Solutions: Utilizing Generative AI for healthcare efficiency, personalized care, and supporting professional decision-making.
- Healthcare Systems Transformation: Improving resilience, sustainability, and equity in healthcare, alongside patient empowerment.

Mission Cancer WP2026-2027
The main focus of the Horizon Europe Cancer Mission Work Programme (WP) 2026-2027 is to accelerate progress toward the goal of improving the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through advanced research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
The 2026-2027 Workprogramme focuses on transitioning research into clinical practice, leveraging digital technologies, and improving equity.
- 2026 Calls: Focus on Virtual Human Twin models, microbiomes, pragmatic trials, and older patient Quality of Life. Calls open on 10 Feb 2026 with deadline on 15 Sep 2026

Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) – Call 12
IHI Call 12 is a single-stage, applicant-driven call with topics aligned with the specific objectives of the IHI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda. The call contains five topics, each focusing on one of the five IHI Specific Objectives (SOs) as set out in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA):
- Topic 1 (SO1): Boosting innovation for a better understanding of the determinants of health
- Topic 2 (SO2): Boosting innovation through better integration of fragmented health R&I efforts
- Topic 3 (SO3): Boosting innovation for people-centred integrated healthcare solutions
- Topic 4 (SO4): Boosting innovation through exploitation of digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare
- Topic 5 (SO5): Boosting innovation for better assessment of the added value of innovative integrated healthcare solutions

Open calls from European Partnerships
EU – ERA4Health Partnership – Call PREVENT-OO ‘Understanding and Preventing Overweight and Obesity’
Focus on mechanisms of their onset and progression, neglected determinants and novel strategies for critical transitional periods in life. Applications must cover only one of the two following topics:
- Research that improves the understanding of the causes for obesity, overweight and its complications by using a mechanistic approach.
- Research that focuses on prevention and public health strategies for critical transitional periods of life.

EU – ERDERA – Joint Transnational Call 2026
2026 Joint Transnational Call, “Resolving unsolved cases in rare genetic and non‑genetic diseases through variant validation and new technological approaches”.
The call will welcome proposals focused on providing diagnostic clarity in unsolved rare genetic and non‑genetic diseases.
