The State of Endocrinology

A landmark survey of Europe's endocrine community, which will inform national and European policy actions

Endocrinology is facing a challenge – the incidence of endocrine disease is increasing, yet the workforce is not being developed and equipped to cope with the clinical and research challenges this brings.

We have launched an international survey to gather your thoughts and opinions on this important topic affecting the future of endocrinology.

The outcomes of the survey will help us to collectively develop recommendations about how the discipline can cope with the clinical and research demands of the future. These recommendations will underpin ESE’s policy actions at a European level, as well as our 51 National Partner Societies' advocacy efforts towards healthcare decision makers.

Deadline: 30 September 2025

TAKE THE SURVEY

This survey, initiated by ESE, in collaboration with the 51 National Endocrine Societies that are part of the ESE Council of Affiliated Societies (ECAS), aims to be a ‘fitness test’ for the clinical and the research dimension of endocrinology.

The outcomes of the survey will help us to develop recommendations about how our discipline can cope with the clinical and research demands of the future. These recommendations will serve our advocacy efforts towards health care decision makers, primarily National but also European where possible.

All information entered in the survey will be anonymous. The data will only be used in aggregated form to develop an informed report and publication describing the ‘State of Endocrinology’ and recommendations for the future.

Your national society participating in this effort will receive an aggregated summary report with the findings related to your country to inform their advocacy efforts at a national level.

The survey is open to clinicians, clinicians scientists and basic scientists working in endocrinology in Europe.

There will be a separate survey for endocrine nurses with questions specifically tailored to this field.

The survey is structured around different sections that relate to different roles within clinical endocrinology and endocrine science.

We estimate that the survey will take on average 20-30 minutes to complete, but this will depend on your professional profile. Based on your profile, different sections of the survey will be made available.

You can decide to save part-way through and return later to finish the survey, but in this case you need to do so from the same device.
